TTP: If You Only Knew The Gift Of God

Thoughts to Ponder

John 4:10
Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

So, Jesus had asked the Samaritan woman for a drink, and she questioned him as to why he would ask her for a drink since the Jews and Samaritans had no dealings.

Just a quick summary of the proceeding verses, to dive into his answer to her.

“…If thou knewest the gift of God..”

This verse is tightly compacted with so much to say, so I’ll give you my briefest revelation.

Whenever Jesus spoke, his words impacted the moment they were spoken.

Being that it’s written for us to know the events, the statement remains.

We have churches filled with members who still don’t get it. Yet they remain faithful to their church. They will tithe, they will go to Sunday School, they will have youth groups, bible studies, and get into the volunteer programs, but have they really caught on to the gift of God?

My pastor would say that we can’t just be like a baby bird and eat everything momma bird puts in its mouth.

Even though the churches are filled with the faithful, do we really understand why God has chosen us?

He wants to give us direction, revelation, and understanding with wisdom in his Word. As long as we let the pastor feed us, we’re not learning how to hunt for ourselves.

“…thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water…”

Again, it’s too compacted to say everything, but have you asked him for his living water?

If you only knew the gift of God.

Blessings
Pete

  1. As Psalm 23 declares “the Lord is MY Shepherd…” not just a shepherd. I love the phrase “I am my beloved’s and He is mine…” relationship brings home the confidence and the singularity of purpose.

  2. Absolutely, “As long as we let the pastor feed us, we’re not learning how to hunt for ourselves.” So many hearts are faithful to the church, and yet don’t seem to understand, “HIS IS OUR SOURCE, in whom we have our being!” Blessings!
